THE GODDESS HALIYA

The  Bicolano goddess of the moon, she is often named the arch-enemy of Bakuanwa, fighting it away from its hunger for the moon. Sometimes described as masked, she is also often named as a protector of women. There is a ritual that precolonial Filipinos would perform, and it involves circling around a tree to summon Haliya to protect them against Bakunawa.

OUR HALIYA

Not much can be found on the goddess Haliya, so we pretty much took creative liberty with developing the character and the only major ties she has to her goddess incarnation is a fascination with the moon and a connection to Bakunawa. Other than that, they’re very different people. 

Our Haliya is a young girl who’s fond of adventure and befriending animals and running off by herself and staying up way past her bedtime.
